Strategic Plan
Mission Statement:
To support and facilitate Latina
women and their families growing in faith, leadership;
empowering Latino families in poverty to take action in
overcoming obstacles and moving toward self-determination.
Vision:
By teaching English
and basic skills in a faith environment, we will give women the
tools and the confidence they need to utilize services such as
advanced ESL classes, GED, and vocational training. Through
fellowship and social activities, we create a community of care
and build self confidence.
A sense of self determination will be fostered through advocacy,
technical support and translation services which empower
participants to take action in improving their lives along with
their families.
The program will
focus on key areas of empowerment training including: education,
immigration, and housing. Activities will include: community
organizing, parental involvement in schools, and field trips to
local colleges, job training, and other advancement programs.
Our long
term goal is to nurture community members along a continuum of
services to become leaders in the community.
Goals:
-
Improve English
proficiency as the group's first priority.
-
Assist women
moving onto more advanced education, attaining GED's, or
vocational training by providing referrals, guidance
counseling, or assisting with financial support (Truman
College intermediate English classes).
-
Provide
information/workshops in key areas: Health, STD’s (Sexual
Transmitted Diseases), domestic violence, nutrition,
alcoholism, financial planning, budgeting, and social
service networks assistance.
-
Providing
daycare for children under school age (preschool).
-
Include
frequent fieldtrips to culturally and educationally valuable
destinations into programming.
-
Provide support for
Parental
involvement in children’s education. Secure workshops
through partnerships with educational agencies to assist
parents in learning the skills to aid children with
homework.
-
Encourage participation in
the local, state, and national political process through
partner community organization activities and fostering
personal interests.
-
Do outreach and recruit new
women into the program.

Strategic Plan
Mission
Statement: To provide Spanish/English bilingual students
with a comprehensive education support system while being a
safe, loving space for children to grow and be prepared for
adolescence.
Goals:
-
Being a safe,
loving space for Spanish/English bilingual children in need
to grow, make friends, learn social skills.
-
Building
relationships and partnerships with other institutions and
organizations such as colleges, churches, business.
-
Provide
sufficient tutoring to meet the diverse needs of students
including emotional and academic support (focused on math
and reading) to help three days a week.
-
Developing
orientation and training for our tutors, especially
equipping to help bilingual students.
-
Expand
relationships with local school (at least one meeting with
administration of each local elementary school) and staff
participation in issues at local schools where our kids are
attending (for example, attending bilingual parent
meetings).
-
Provide field
trips and special activities.
-
Serving the
greater support networks in the Latino Spanish/English
bilingual community on which the program participants depend
for security and growth.
Expansion
Plans:
There are currently
13 students in the program with 12 on the
waiting list.
Transportation issues have been the primary barrier to growth,
with a 15 passenger van. Public transportation for field trips
would be a feasible option for a larger group if volunteers were
secured. The program would expand to build one-on-one mentoring
program, which would include:
-
Student being
matched with an adult mentor (who will come once a week for
homework help.
-
Recruitment,
training, retention program for mentors and families.
-
Special field trips
and activities for students and their mentors.
Needs
-
New van with 15
seat belts
-
Tutors/adult
mentors for students
-
Passes for the
summer program to museums, zoos, gardens, and other field
trips.
