About US
Chicago Uptown Ministry has operated for
35 years in the neighborhood of Uptown serving the
homeless, immigrants, and low income families. Through steadfast
love and honesty, it is the Ministry's mission to build community
between people from all walks of life to bring about self
sufficiency, hope, and justice.
The Ministry's food pantry serves as a bridge to a number of other
services including: ESL classes, after school programming, pastoral
care and worship services, AA meetings, support groups for the
mentally ill and seniors, parish nursing, substance abuse treatment
referral services, and social justice advocacy.

Ministry Past to Present: 1971-2007
Founded by two seminarian students from the Lutheran Church Missouri
Synod (LCMS) from the Northern Illinois District, the Ministry was
soon joined by two teachers recently graduating from Concordia
College in River Forest. Later, English District funds from
the LCMS became the primary support for the Ministry's church.
