About US

Chicago Uptown Ministry has operated for 35 years in the neighborhood of Uptown serving the homeless, immigrants, and low income families. Through steadfast love and honesty, it is the Ministry's mission to build community between people from all walks of life to bring about self sufficiency, hope, and justice. The Ministry's food pantry serves as a bridge to a number of other services including: ESL classes, after school programming, pastoral care and worship services, AA meetings, support groups for the mentally ill and seniors, parish nursing, substance abuse treatment referral services, and social justice advocacy.

History

Founded by two seminarian students from the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) from the Northern Illinois District, the Ministry was soon joined by two teachers recently graduating from Concordia College in River Forest.  Later, English District funds from the LCMS became the primary support for the Ministry's church. Having resided at four locations, the Ministry now operates at:
